Analysis of "Living Eagles"

The poem is a realistic poem for it's realistic attributes. Although the poet Mulekanle Adedotun makes use of personification, as attributes of man are showcased in an eagle's lifecycle. At this point, one need to compare the two creatures,i.e bringing out the similarities in them.
Firstly,the title of the poem "living Eagles" depicts the men in power,aristocrats and men in Government who are still on earth.In line with this,eagle in birds' kingdom is one of the leaders which is known as predator.Therefore,eagle is among the ruling class of birds.
Secondly,the poem which is segmented in five verses are written in line with eagle's characteristics.The poet makes emphasy on "era" in all the first line of the verses which can be interpreted as "leaders of my time".Thus:
                         "Eagles of my Era".
However,the first verse showcases the first attribute of eagle which is power.Eagle is known to be among the most powerful birds. The power is resided in it's wings which gives it the strength to lift animal for feeding.This quality according to the poet is depicted in the ruling class of man.Exploitation is the order of the day in man's life.The ruling class feeds on the masses at daily basis.
In addition, pride as a quality is also observed among the ruling class.The aristocrat always display their wealth and find it hardly to mingle with the proletarian.This makes the poet called them selfish and arrogant.In line with this,eagle always soar while other birds fly.T hus:
                        "Living symbol of pride,
                          Finches and parrot
                          Are not your mate..."
The third verse depicts the magnificent buildings builds by the eagle in high location.The location must be high because of it's predation mission.Thus:
                         "Your nets build in rock
                           For your keen vision:.."
Consequently,the poet sermonizes and sounds warning to the bourgeoisie(ruling class) by bringing notice to them that death moves near and their acquired resources,riches and wealth will be left behind.
                          "Be aware!
                            Point of no return
                            Moves near..."
In conclusion,the poet sermonizes to the ruling class of his time.He uses personification to deliver his message after he has studied the life of eagle which also related to his target. Likewise the diction of the poem is simple as he avoids compound words for mass accessibility.
